Challenge:
Online learning can often feel isolating and overly functional, lacking the sense of community, progression and personal growth that traditional learning environments create. For K12, the challenge was to build a brand that reflected the flexibility of self-directed education without feeling cold or transactional. The experience needed to feel more human, keeping students engaged while reinforcing belonging throughout their learning journey and expressing that growth is personal, evolving and unique to every individual.
SOLUTION:
The solution was a design system rooted in the Fibonacci spiral, using patterns found in nature to represent growth, progression and the unique paths each student takes through learning. The brand centred learners as a community, supported by bold graphic shapes that anchored the identity, engaging iconography, vibrant primary colours that evolved across the student journey, and a playful suite of 3D graphics that brought energy and personality to the experience.
COMPLETED IN CONJUCTION WITH SS+K - MIKE ANDREOZZI, ELENA CLARÓ & ELYSE RICE.
OUTCOME:
K12 transformed online learning into a more engaging and human-centred experience through a visual identity that felt vibrant, flexible and optimistic. The rebrand also uplifted the product experience, creating more engaging moments for students through the introduction of Strider across key touchpoints. Supported by a design system that extended seamlessly into digital experiences and product offerings, the brand created stronger continuity between identity and interaction. This helped students feel more connected, supported and motivated, reinforcing learning as a personal journey full of progress and possibility.
